Wednesday, September 07, 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Hey everyone. How are we all doing? Sim gently reminded me that I hadn't posted on here for several... ahem... months and that I really should if I wanted to keep the domain name. You see an unfortunate little incident occurred with my friend Zimon's blog... He had not posted on there for several ... ahem... months (I really should clear this cough I'm starting to get) and well, his blog looks as though it has been taken over by some kind of Irish blogging family with unusual names. Yes, so, now I've established a reason for sitting at the computer with my little fingers tap-tap-tapping at the keyboard, I'll launch right into what I've been up to! LOTS! On the weekend, as you may or may not be aware, it was Father's Day. We (Shane, Lib, Dad, Sim and myself) celebrated with a lovely lunch at the Wantirna Club on Saturday. We chose Saturday purely to avoid the extortionist prices that they charge on Father's Day itself. What's in a day anyway? We had a delightful time. I had the Hawaiian Chicken Schnitzel and Chips! (Yes, Those Capitals Are Necessary!). It was a chicken parmiagana with pineapple on top hence the Hawaiian name. It was really nice and I ate it with relish. No, not really, I don't like relish ;) That was quite fun. After a quick stop off at Sim's folks' to wish his Dad a Happy Father's Day and give presents and have a cup of tea/coffee, on Saturday evening, Sim and I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Knox's VMAX cinema. I like that cinema. It's really nice and has not one, but two maps! I find this tidbit both impressive and somewhat redundant seeing as I've never actually seen anyone look at either the first or second map, but I think it's nice they're there just in case... Just in case you can't find Row T. The movie was very good. It made us both crave chocolate during the movie. Oh, how I'd love to stand mouth agape under that flowing, gushing chocolate waterfall. But I had to "save some room for later (Augustus)" as we were having dinner after the movie, at the nearby Switch Grill Bar. The hokkien noodles (that I had) and the soup of the day (that Sim had - potato and bacon, I believe) are both highly recommended. *Diversion warning* I'm currently listening to: - Natalie Imbruglia's Counting Down the Days; - Muse's Showbiz; - Air's Premiers Symptomes. An eclectic mix, to be sure. *End diversion* On Sunday, Sim and I had another "lunch date" with his lovely grandmother where we were treated to as much food as perhaps said Augustus Gloop would expect to and/or digest in one sitting! It was really nice and relaxing and afterwards, we popped in the car and headed to Chadstone Shopping Centre. I think it was only the 3rd time I had ever been to Chadstone, so everything feels new and different and unusual as I walk around its arcades and shops. It's so like an airport, in its construction and carparks and everything, I feel. Sim and I went clothes shopping which was very fun! We also bought some groceries and experienced what it's like to self-serve yourself at Coles. It's a process where there are four little kiosk/registers set up and a staff member has her own cubicle where she supervises the proceedings. You do everything that a register operator would do - scan the items; place the items in the shopping bag; weigh and type in the fruit and vegie PLU code (Pink Lady's is I believe 5030, Sim correct me if I'm wrong...). Sim jokingly commented that he thought I would be better at scanning items and would generally be a better checkout chap than I was. I reminded him that I was not a grocery checkout chap but a department store checkout chap (like there's a difference, hahaha); that Coles' scanbeds were very different to Kmart's and that instead of said scanbed I preferred to use the little gun device to zap barcodes as they came my way!! It was quite a lengthy and time-consuming exercise, however it was extremely fun. If you're in a hurry, queue up the normal way however if you are feeling adventurous and/or brave, try the self-serve option! I'm currently reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I know Erica is definitely not looking forward to seeing the movie version of the book, however I really am! When I saw a preview of the movie before Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, I forgot that I was watching Charlie and not Goblet. The preview looks excellent and the book is so gripping (I'm up to The Third Task). This is my second read of this book. I'm gearing up to re-read Order of the Phoenix and then read, for the first time, Half-Blood Prince. PLEASE DO NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT ANY OF THOSE BOOKS AS I DO NOT WANT TO 'SPOIL' MYSELF. THANKS. OK, everyone. Enough of that. You have a good night. See you all soon. I hope you enjoyed my blog. Comment comment. Bye!!!!! :)posted by AJ | 8:46 PM | |
