Saturday, January 15, 2005 Hey everyone!!! Surprise!!! Yes... it's a post! I know they've been few and far between. I'm really sorry about that. Let's see - what have I been up to since my last entry. Christmas, New Year's and the 10 days I had off work were excellent. I had a great time during which I visited one of Sim's friends at her holiday home in Mt Martha which was lovely, as well as caught up with Eug and the gang prior to Eug's departure to Indonesia. On the Eug-front, I have decided to copy and paste an entry of hers that was in the Comments section down to the bottom of this page. I figured more people would view it on the main site. When we all caught up on the 27th of December, we had a mega Curry Night which was really great, although Simon and I have reflected that almost all of the dishes looked exactly the same... Mmmm funny about that. It was really fun. Christmas consisted of not having any breakfast at all in preparation for the amount of food I was going to ingest, lunch at Sim's parents in Camberwell, dinner at my Aunty's in East Doncaster. Sooo much food. At my Aunty's, everyone got up and played table tennis after dinner which was great. It's definitely one way to digest all that food!!! :) New Year's Eve, I went into the city with Sim, Sim's sister Emma, and Erica where we watched the fireworks. We were up near the Arts Centre on Swanston Street and it was very cool. It was actually the first time I'd seen fireworks in person before (not counting cheap little ones that probably hail from Canberra...). Afterwards, Emma and Erica stayed at Sim's place and then we had a yummy French Toast making and eating session for breakfast, before we chucked on some classic golden oldies (80s of course!) and Erica, Sim and I all karaoked to our little heart's content. In the afternoon, we saw The Incredibles which was EXCELLENT!!! I really recommend going to see it. It was very clever and funny. I especially liked Edna Mode, the cooky fashion designer. She was fabulous. I also saw I, Robot on DVD soon after which I thought was really cool. You know me, I like anything to do with robots and/or sci-fi. Will Smith was quite good in his role, although I am forever reminded of Men In Black whenever I think about him in movies... *shudder* Today, Sim and I had free tickets to go to the Deaflympics. We saw Day Three of the Men's Soccer - Netherlands v Russia. Russia won in the end 3-1. It was a good match, although the crowd numbers were disappointing. There were only approximately 20 "real" attendees there besides family and friends for the competing nations. Sim and I had a lot of fun guessing the flags that were hanging from the rafters. I've always wanted to say 'hanging from the rafters' but have never had the opportunity.... ANYWAY!!! The flags were not that well hung in that some of the countries were indecipherable. They were limp and not at all unfurled. We both expected a higher level of professionalism for such a world stage. Incidentally, I learnt a new sign for the Games. to "clap", one raises both hands and then rotates them fastly.... cool, eh? I'm reading a really fantastic book at the moment by Jaclyn Moriarty. It's called "I Have a Bed Made of Buttermilk Pancakes" and it says it's a fairy tale for grown-ups. And it is!!! It's really cooky and silly with Family Secrets, and the characters always thinking of doing such things as writing Letters to the Editor (but they never do), or having a sentence such as "And it was something she regretted for the rest of her life" and the forefront of everything she did, which meant she would keep second guessing herself and that would result in a flurry of paranoia about future events which would never happen, or one of the children having a mother who wrote erotic fiction for a living which meant that she would go to school saying a bad word 500 times in a row...... It's quite funny. I really recommend it. Uni's getting really busy. Offers for undergraduate courses go out on the 18th and we also have enrolment days coming up for the DipEd/BTeach which I'm helping out with, which should be very very cool... I'm still enjoying it a lot and it's all going well. Next week I'm planning to go strawberry picking with Wendy and Mon if the weather holds out. Otherwise we'll pack a picnic or do something equally as relaxing. That should be really fun to see them and chill out and catch up. I think that's all I wanted to say! Please comment, say g'day or write on here to keep in touch with Eug!!! See ya everyone xoxo AJ!!
