Saturday, May 31, 2003 Hurrah! Jo and Jess, over at the aptly titled blog, http://jojess.blogspot.com, have updated!! I love their site for its emotional honesty and the trippy colours that change while reading it... Very cool. Something for everyone. I would love to know if I, too, have any psychological disorders.... Insert nervous laugh. Last night, I was invited to join some friends I've made here at Fenner Hall to go to the High Court of Australia for High Court Cocktails.... Strangely, most of the friends I've made here study 1st year Law. The Cocktail night was VERY pretensious. (spelling?). Had to get all dressed up and such. Was way out of my league. Met some cool people. Met some not so cool people. Actually most of the cool people were not Law students. Funny that. The event was put on by ANU's Law Student Society and was allegedly a big deal.... Can see why. Was flash, but not really my scene.... Stemming from that part of the evening, I did not realise just how optimistic I generally am. About everything. When meeting someone overly pessimistic and arrogant - what do you do? Normally I'm not stuck for things to say, but it was tough... That and the fact they could probably eat me for breakfast on any given topic... Anyway after High Court, we went to ICBM which is this tiny nightclub in Civic (city centre). Danced. Did not want to drink a lot so I could have composure for very very early test this morning. Was a great night. Everyone looked tops in their cocktail dresses and suits. Incidentally, Zimon did *not* wake me up with his sms at about 6am this morning, however I kept waking up cos I was nervous about the DFAT Test I had this morning. Very scary. I hope I go OK... Was told I was one of 320 to make it to the cognitive and written test stage. Out of 2400. They choose 40. If I don't go OK, I got to that stage, so am very very very very very very very happy But still - wanna progress, ya know?... Oh und Herr Zimon, mein Freund - es gibt kein ä in Kindergarten, glaube ich. Also, whenever I would wake up, I'd check my phone for the time (as you do) as someone new would have messaged me. Quite bizarre.... All those going to Luke and Will's 21st tonight, am very envious. Will be a GREAT night, with drinking, dancing, sharing many funny and supposedly true stories about some good mates. Will call tonight.posted by AJ | 4:03 PM | Friday, May 30, 2003 G'day G'day. Thought I'd make a bit of a blog.... What have I been up to... Ummmm. Oh yeah. Coffee and Cake night was fun as usual. Spoke to a Swiss guy about Materials Engineering. Didn't really get too far in that convo. he wanted to know what Bakelite was. A French girl told him. hmmmm. Also, internship is going well... Hopefully Max has my correct address here now. Futurama was LEGENDARY on Thursday night. Oh so very funny. Human Bender eating hot dog while kissing girl - CLASSIC... Luke and Will's 21st tomorrow night.... should be there, dammit. The price we pay, I guess... (or I do, anyway) Bought Elixir's self-titled debut album and Futurama Comic #13. Oh happy day Weather is here Wish you were beautifulposted by AJ | 5:41 PM | Wednesday, May 28, 2003 Oh yeah, and someone at my internship's ringtone was the Leisure Suit Larry theme... What a GREAT< GREAT > GREAT game!!posted by AJ | 8:25 PM | Yo... What's up, y'all? I'm getting really annoyed with these Internet quotas that they have here at ANU. It makes doing Current Issues (an online subject!) really hard to do.... And what's the deal with these upcoming assignments due? As Paul correctly said, this subject is unlike any other in the BA... I'm sure I'll get them done (that is if my group is also doing....stuff) Also, what's with the amount of people studying International Relations? Or as it's called most places, IR... Seems like everyone I bump into say they are either studying, have studied, or want to study IR. RMIT's a little bit different you see - we call is IS. Has IR become the new IT? Or IS IR the new IT? Could I BE any more pedantic? Is it just me or is this post taking on an incredibly sarcastic tone? With all the (rhetoric) questions, it's reminding myself of either a) Jerry Seinfeld's comedy; b) Carrie's really annoying column in Sex and the City. I don't watch it... Not much. ;) Not that there's anything wrong with that... Also, living with ¡Ö 500 hundred people is interesting at times.... I'm really loving it but I find it strange that I have not seen the one person that first showed me around the place over two weeks ago... Am looking forward to the Weekly Coffee and Cake Night. (Every Wed.) A chance to gorge oneself silly on free coffee and cake. I wonder where they get their snappy moniker from... Meanwhile, the Dutch is going good. The mnemonic of 't hofschip to remember which past participles get -t endings is really helpful.... My exercise book is filled with crazy exercises and as I go along, the red crosses are becoming red ticks. Crazy Dutch.posted by AJ | 8:19 PM | Tuesday, May 27, 2003 Yes, as Lucie correctly pointed out, Sunday night saw the 2003 EuroVision Song Contest! And what a good one it was!! Miss Turkey took the honour, just scraping in. Her version of "Kiss Kiss" really was much better than Holly Valance's. That's ripped from a Turkish song, ya know? We had a EuroVision Song Contest Party in the TV Room here at Fenner. There were many people there and among them people from Germany, the Netherlands and France. I really liked Estonia's entry (Eighties Coming Back), and I thought Israel's was really funny with the 5 women chasing the guy that was really static and robotic... Mr Cyprus, or Billy Ray Cyprus as the commentator pointed out was LAME!!! Luke, that wasn't directed to you... Was funny when the Netherlands gave points to Germany, and the German guy and gal in the crowd here were all "YEAH!!!!!". Then when Germany was giving their points, they said they had some for their "neighbours and friends". The Dutch guy in the crowd was all "WOOHOO!", but alas, it was to a different neighbour and friend. Very very very funny. Many people laughed at the poor expense of the Dutch. Also funny was hearing the two girls from France bag the Belgian reporter's "French" with her strong accent when she was reading out the points... sooo cool. Pfeffernüsse, Tim Tams and pizzas were devoured... And what was with Miss Greece and her bondage/leather gear? She had really big.... lungs. Equally, Miss Croatia must've thought she was in Miss Universe when she performed her song in the Swimsuit section. Malta was probably Evening Gown... What else... Spent today (Tues) at Parliament House where I sat in on the Budget Estimates for the Prime Minister and the Cabinet's section. Was very interesting. The term "heated" is a little too light.. And what's with all the pay parking at shopping centres in Canberra? Nothing like the good ol' burbs of Melbourne-town... Enjoy Buffy. I did.posted by AJ | 5:26 PM | Sunday, May 25, 2003 In my Inbox, I have a folder called Dream-Mail, where Eug and I (and others) used to email each other our dreams. We were going to somehow try to make a short film about one or some of them, but time and lack of money meant we didn't get around to it.. Found this one last night... VERY funny. Subject: "Dreeeeeeeeeeeeeam Weaver" Date: Fri, 14 Jan 2000 19:37:43 +1100 Hello, Here's a really bizarre dream I had last Wednesday night, while sleeping at Jesse's. I hope you find it as bewildering as I did... OK, let me set the scene: For some reason, my friend Jesse, who does NOT work, was working at the local McDonalds. McDonalds Bayswater. So anyway, I see him working and he's got the striped shirt on and what-not, just doing his business, flipping burgers. SO anyway... this doesn't go anywhere, then all of a sudden Jesse and I are walking down the corridors of Melbourne Airport with about 1000 others, as we were... wait for it.... Ricky Martin's groupies!! Apparently, and I don't know what my subconscious is trying to tell me with this doozie.. Jesse and I were Ricky Martin's BEST groupies. I don't even want to know why and/or WHAT that involves, but all I know is that we were his quote unquote right hand men. So we're just walking along, then Ricky comes up to us, wearing Jesse's shirt (I like to think it was Jesse's :) ), or a shirt LIKE Jesse's Macca's uniform (the green striped one). He has the collar out, and over this he wears a fluro orange woolen jumped, and tight, TIGHT black leather pants. So anyway, he says "I arrive in my two favourite groupies home country for the first time, and all you guys organise for me is this little, shitty tour bus...!!" Then, all of a sudden I found myself looking outside and there WAS this "little, shitty tour bus" that was practically falling apart. So Jesse and I go on to say the bus wasn't for him, but rather the 30 Qantas planes that were just hovering overhead were (??) and yes... they WERE hovering. I don't know what new technology I invented in my dream to make that happen, but they were definitely hovering.. All of a sudden, I was transported to McDonalds Vegan, where Jesse had been transferred to. It was in the Middle-Of-Nowheres-ville and everyone there looked as if they belonged on the little, shitty tourbus LoL! So I go to the counter and this time Jesse isn't flipping burgers, he's flipping air, cos McDonalds Vegan, in the suburb of Vegan, has no meat in their "burgers". I don't know WHY they would be called burgers then, but oh well.. Then, one of my friends from work, walks around behind the counter to the grill and just chucks on a burger, and the staff all gasp in one collective gasp. *GASP*. He just flips his burger a couple of times, chucks it into a bun and downs it whole. Everyone working there just looks at him, mouths gaping, and he doesn't think anything of it. So then I look back to where Jesse was working, and it is now transformed to what appeared to be a booth (like in a restaurant) with bright red, shiny seats. Definitely something from the 70s. Sitting in the booth are some of my workmates and my brother. They are sipping cocktails with the little umbrellas sticking out of them. They are heavily intoxicated. They see me and the girl says, no SLURS: "So tell me..... Andrew, how long have you been Shane's brother?" I reply: "All my life" She slurs: "You're so lucky, I've only *hic* known him for a couple of years. We all *hic* lurve Shane. Don't we Shane *pinching his cheeks while downing more of her cocktail* We love Shane! We love Shane!" Now chanting. The other guy there says: "Andrew, so how did Shane pull up after the Farewell Party?" (for a guy and girl at Kmart). I said "he was pretty bad" and they just all cacked up, knocking him on the back, and stuff, as drunk people do. I then look toward the coffee perculator and am quite taken with it. All of a sudden, I wake up.............. and Jesse's coffee perculator is going nuts. Make of it what you willposted by AJ | 2:45 PM | Saturday, May 24, 2003 Great news, everyone. It appears that the Season 3 Futurama DVDs are tentatively slated for release on the 1-Sep-2003 in time for my birthday! YIPPEE!!! EDIT: Also, stumbled upon this rather amusing sitejust then. It's called You Know You Watch Too Much Futurama When.... It's oh so true....So very very true. My fav was perhaps the one where You Know You Watch Too Much Futurama When.... "Your only response when someone asks you, "And how's the rest of the family?" is "Belligerent and numerous."" BAM! ANOTHER Edit: Futurama (1999-2003), rest in peace. Bad, depressing news, everyone! I just discovered that Futurama will not be shown on The FOX Network in the U.S anymore. This, most likely, means the end of the great show some of us know, and most of us love.Hopefully, the show and all its hilarity and hijinx will continue in comic book, computer games and movies.... One loyal fan over at www.gotfuturama.com said, quite correctly 'Tis better to have Futurama'd and lost, than never to have Futurama'd at all. May Futurama's spirit live long and prosperposted by AJ | 4:37 PM | Last night, went to a few of the nightspots in in Canberra! Wanted to use the term "club-hopping", but you'll see why I didn't... We went to In Blue, which was a small little place that was pretty cool. From the street, you could see the disco lights and the general blue-ness of the place, through windows that went the entire length of the place - pretty cool. They played a weird mix of music. Everything from current dance-type hits (In Da Club etc), to older stuff (J-Lo's Play, followed immediately with Jenny From The Block) to 100% Pure Love and Don't Call Me Baby and even that Four Non Blondes song. Don't know the name of the track but I know all the words... which is sadder? ;) That was actually really fun jumping around to that song - it was these real bumping version of it and everyone was getting into it :) :) :) Incidentally, my Chinese is actually much better when drunk. I think Jess can probably confirm this.... Then went to a seedy place called Southpac (South Pacific Rugby Club), where residents at Fenner get in for free after becoming a Member. I'm told that Southpac somehow sponsor Fenner in sports or something, so it means they can't make a profit from us. That means every Mondays it's free alcohol and every Thursday you pay $5 and get two jugs of ANYTHING you want... I'm told that. Not sure if it's true or not. Sufice it to say, every Tuesday and Friday mornings, Fenner residents who have 9am starts at ANU wish they didn't go to Southpac the night before.... White Sambuca and Tequila shots! I think that was the first time I had tried White Sambuca! Why not earlier, eh? Afterwards, the girl I bought the shot for told me that "ËýµÄ¶Ç×Ó²»Ì«Êæ·þ¡° - literally "her stomach was not too comfortable" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. She wasn't Chinese but studies Mandarin, so we were speaking Mandarin the whole night.... In other news, discovered that Season 2 of Futurama and Season One of Deep Space Nine HAVE been released. This brings a smile to my already smiling face. Oh, and thankyou to Zimon for this great article about Klingonese. To paraphrase Andrew (great name!) from Buffy, "Klingonese had much clearer transitive and intransitive rules" I figure if you're wasting time reading this, you can mosey onto to this site and have a laugh while you're at it: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/05/11/1052591677008.html posted by AJ | 4:09 PM | Friday, May 23, 2003 While watching Futurama last night, which I thought was EXCELLENT - especially the quirky, little, starving Neptunians - I met some Interns who had just completed the Internship Program I'm doing.... Q:What do you get when you put 4 interns in a room with Futurama?? A: 4 interns in a room with Futurama... *cue funny drum noises* I'll be here all week..... Don't think much else happened.... Oh, and a question: Who's who over at dotpoints.blogspot.com? Is EVERYONE Shacca? ;) posted by AJ | 7:07 PM | HURRAH!!!!!!!!!! My blog is BACK baby. Back and LOOKING BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE Well not really - have made no significant (or otherwise) changes. I'm good thanks... You'll be *peas*ed (sic) to know that I made "mashed potato, mashed potato" tonight. NB: I use the term "mashed" REALLY loosely. Was trying to "mash" away, and was fearful that my meat that I was trying to cook/char-grill at the same time was burning like a random thing in hell, but continued to mash like crazy and just could not achieve that creamy, mashy goodness that we had that one time at your place when you introduced me to: 1) Mexican food 2) Your cooking Would LOVE to know your secret (wouldn't we all...) about how to make "Wendy's Perfect Mash"... And with your permission, put it on http://devine.blogspot.com - cos no one should continue existing (not living) without knowing how to "mash potato, mash potato" the way you do..... Hope all is well there. Say hi to Teddy, Charlie and James for me (in that order) ;) -AJ P.S. Not only do I now have "mashed potato, mashed potato" in my head, but also the M*A*S*H theme, cos I've written MASH so much...... (I almost wrote mash instead of much just then.... lol) And her reply, oh the subject heading was "Deary me"....: hi aj i definitely think you have wayyyy too much time on your hands. what's with cooking your own grub? i thought you guys were meant to be like kinda important up there? or maybe i just made that up. who knows as for the mash, no big secret. just milk and some butter/margarine. little at a time to see what consistency you want to stop at. i don't usually drain my potatoes too well, so the liquid from that sorta adds to the "wetness" (ooh, i think i just used a naughty word.......... is it that time of the night already?). feel free to blog the recipe away. on the topic of food though, i don't recall having made you mash before? anyway, just finished watching some english cooking show on abc. fulla good stuff. i should have a dinner thing at my place again when you get back. will be nice to be all inside digging into lots of food on a cold winter's night. i think it sounds like a plan. james and i took the dog for a "walk" today. like you, i use terms rather lightly at times. we chucked him in the boot and drove up to the car with a tennis racket and ball. i ended up having to sit in the boot with him so that he wouldn't jump into the backseat of the car and chew up some nice things in the car. as you know, james has a little hatchback and it wasn't the most comfortable of trips. lots of odd looks from passerbys and teddy licking me all over with his wonderous breath. i had a lovely day, thank you very much. i jsut finished writing a 3000 word essay, so i think i've earned a well deserved rest in bed watching the season finale of sex and the city. hope all is well in the nation's capital. too bad you're not a porn man (or maybe you are). wendles HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA. It's called procrastination. I need to break up my day with random emails and cooking goodness. Oh, forgot to say, that while "cooking" my meat in a huge frying pan type device (I believe they call it a "frying pan") for some reason, a HUGE flame came from under the pan and the girl who was using the other stove opposite me gave me a look that said "you have no idea what you're doing, and I can tell". Great, huh?posted by AJ | 11:44 AM | Wednesday, May 21, 2003 Stay tuned for (hopefully) an exciting recipe involving the title of a well known song involving a vegetable and doing something to it.... That sounded better in my head. Actually co-incides quite well with the addition of new Bloggers!! Hayley, Case and Shaz have set up a blog over at http://dotpoints.blogspot.com - check it out. Hopefully Shacca's entree turns out A-OKposted by AJ | 9:21 PM | I didn't think my Subway comment would create such controversy.... Just wanted to note the fact that there were two stores within, maybe, a minute's walk of each other. By the way, if you couldn't tell, I Iistened to Alanis' Jagged Little Pill album recently. Hence the "ironic, don't you think?" comments on my and also Keri's blog. Meanwhile, Erica hasn't updated her blog in two weeks...no love. no love. Oh well... all in good time. Ummmmm so what's news. Buffy was EXCELLENT this week... Andrew is officially da man. He reads microwave instruction manuals... ahhhhhhhh Angel was good, but not as good/funny as Buffy, methinks... Went to uni today to research for my Culture and Business Practice in East Asia essay and was searching the ANU library catalogue for sources. Chanced upon TWO authors with the surname Devine who had written books, relevant to language and learning. Zimon, is this Nominative Determinism? Thought it was very odd... Also, discovered that a building at ANU (the Hanna Neumann Building) is named after my friend's grandmother. What an honour. I think that's all... Very excited to hear that Ang is on 90.7 Syn FM on Saturday nights from 7-8:30 (i think). She joins the illustrious list of people I know (Kane, Alicia, Lucie) who have also hosted a show on SYN FM. Make sure you listen out for her and Lucie.posted by AJ | 3:33 PM | Monday, May 19, 2003 There are sure are a lot of Subways here..... And that's not a good thing. I don't really like the smell of Subwaysposted by AJ | 9:58 PM | Sunday, May 18, 2003 The eyes have it Am very pleased that Simon has fixed his page. Was just a blue screen there for a while.... Forgot to mention in a previous post just how cool it was to spot the Random Australian (Extras and Otherwise) that were in Matrix Reloaded. v v v cool. Received an email from JOEL which was quite exciting. Seems like it's colder currently than it is here in Canberra. Alles ist normal. Am thinking of buying one of those large overcoats. Look warm and kind of disguise the fact you're wearing a suit. Always good when buying groceries and doing general non-suit-wearing-type-things. Bought some mint-choc fudge today, and immediately thought of Keri and her Amazing Fudge. Also, had to get some passport photos and everytime eye look at them, they freak me out. Not only because eye see my devilishly handsome face staring back at me ;) but also because it seems as if the eyes of the four images are all pointing in different directions. You see, the paper that they are printed on did not come out flat (it *was* from one of those booths after all....), and it means that if eye stand the paper up straight, it forms a partial circle - adding to my discomfort. The EYES ! THE EYES!! Eye'm sure the good person over at EYE rule the world would have a field day with it. Actually, eye was able to do my SECOND (EVER!) Magic Eye today... It was of a woman and she was rolling dough. The only other Magic Eye eye've been able to do was, strangely enough, in a Magic Eye book. (why do eye own that again, when eye'm not even that good at doing Magic Eye?) The previous one Eye could do, was a globe of Earth. today, when everything changed i'm feeling quite strange it's not in my head and it just gets in my way we've done nothing wrong it's taken so long should've read more books instead of listening to songs is it meaningless an excuse for stress? a few key quotations always better than yes i'd be enigmatic never talk automatic like the crowd from the art school they're so importantposted by AJ | 7:50 PM | Saturday, May 17, 2003 Can't download MSN onto these computers.... Although I did see that the person next to me was using ICQ. I used to have that. Is lame and annoying. Am actually starting to feel a litle bit isolated. Too much work and not enough seeing people make AJ go crazy. That or I need dinner... prob the latterposted by AJ | 7:26 PM | Friday, May 16, 2003 Since my last post, about 24 hours ago, have had some fun... Watched good ol' Boston Public and Futurama up in the 10th floor TV lounge. I am pleased to report that I have not seen a mouse since my first time in that room. I was told, however, that someone saw a "mice" in my wing of the kitchen. It's haunting me. That, or it's a plague. A plague of "mouses" Futurama was HILARIOUS. And so say all of us. I was crying with laughter. The part where Enis (spelling?) said "Do you ever feel like you go woth girls just cos you should?" was sooooo funny, not to mention the various times that Fry almost killed his own Grandfather (knife, rusty bayonets.... ) so much random hilarity. Went on a tour of the Parliamentary Library today. Very quick, was in and out within an hour. Hopefully I'll be able to use it to source some good info for my Research Report. Shopped for a little while... Made a calendar of upcoming pieces of work due. It was rather full. Good to see how long til everything's due. Walked down to ANU and watched one of the First Semester Interns do their Oral Presentation about the EU, possible EU reforms in regards to SPFC and how this will potentially affect Australia's National Interests (a complicated term, for anyone currently doing Current Issues...) I'm sure MAX will be interested in this... She spoke for about 20 minutes, which I believe was just a summary of the Research Report and it was so professional. Q&A followed and the presenter answered so well. It was really great to see someone so knowledgable about a given topic. I kept thinking RMIT's not like this, RMIT's not like this..... :) Walked over to Civic (the "city" centre) and saw Matrix Reloaded. Oh your God! It was amazing! WOW. Cannot believe the special effects. So very good. Won't say anything, so it doesn't spoil it for anyone. I will, howver, say that my fav scene was Neo fighting Multiple Villians in a courtyard with a pole. soooooooooooo cool. Walked back to Fenner, and cooked dinner then wandered down to the Common Room where there was a lesson on "how to speak Australian proper". It was all about Strine. Very funny. Some of the accents and words that non-Austrayans (sic) came up wif were rool good like. We even tried to do the Typical Aussie Bloke or Shiela walk, while working three bits of Aussie slang into a sentence. Very cool.... EDIT: Forgot to mention that at said Strine night, everyone that attended was given an Aussie nickname. They took your last name and basically put a O or a IE onto somehow. I was DEEVO. Might go now.... Oo-roo posted by AJ | 9:57 PM | Thursday, May 15, 2003 Evening all... Couldn't be bothered reading any more to-day/night so thought I'd make a post before I check out the Karaoke and hopefully am able to watch Futurama... Since my last post... hmmm what happened... Bumped into someone I know and went exploring in the 10th Floor Library.. bizarre selection of books ranging from your standard fare to Kama (sic) Sutra for Cats and the History of Farting. Then bumped into someone else I know and joined them for the weekly Coffee and Cake night in the opposite tower, also on the 10th floor. It ws really cool - free milo, coffee, cake, marshmallows, cheezels, milk, scalding hot water.. you know how it is. So that was fun... Bed. Up at an insane hour to get ready to spend first full day at Parliament House. Caught the bus in and when I was walking in the entry to the House of Reps, there were media set up (Cameras, interviews with the cool little mics that say JJJ or 3AW or what have you). Just casually walked in around them... very cool. Listened in to two Private Meetings, both very exciting. See GUESTBOOK for a little info. But not too much. I'm not allowed to speak about it. Really. Also saw the Opening of the Impressions of Antarctica Exhibition which had paintings and the like from people who had travelled down there over the years to bring back the humanitarian nature of the Antarctic. Was very cool. Read a lot of documents, before coming back to Fenner.... What have you been up to? posted by AJ | 9:52 PM | Wednesday, May 14, 2003 G'day everyone... Thought I'd make a post on here to keep you all happy.... What's news? Ummmmm... am meeting with the Powers That Be again tomorrow at Parliament House to work out some matters. Might sit in on some briefings and the like. All very cool. APH is a HUGE building, and it's good that the Senate and House of Reps have the two colours (red and green) along the carpet so you can't get lost that easily.... Keri among others will be happy to know I have bought a Large Frying Pan/Wok and tonight I am going to cook Teriyaki Stir Fry... mmmm. Very cool. Last night watched the Fenner boys trounce all over Bruce in the Men's Inter-Hall Basketball Competition. Was really good to meet new people and there is such a large spirit here between the members of the Hall. All the girls b'ball team came to watch to cheer them on. It was generally a really good vibe. Don't think there's much else to mention... Oh - I saw ANGEL last night (for some reason Canberra shows both Buffy and Angel a night before Melbourne shows it). WHAT A GREAT EPISODE!! Luke, Eug, Dayna, Imogen - I hope you enjoy your regular Angel nights. Make sure you "drink" up for me..... Take care of yourselves and othersposted by AJ | 4:22 PM | Friday, May 09, 2003 Well well well... With less than 24 hours til I fly off to Canberra (argh.... very scared and excited and nervous.... ), thought I'd make a bit of a post.... Have been packing for most of the day. Somehow it's made it more real that I won't be here for a good couple of months... very strange. VERY STRANGE. It's weird cos I'm not overseas, but I'm not home (obviously..).. Hmmm. Will be a great experience and a lof ot fun, I'm sure. Was reading my diary from my time in China and brought back some good memories... Actualy found a little piece of poetry (or something..) I must've written while there... beyond the night the unforseeable all knowing oracle with wind of intervention. Divine and supernatural The light she draws me near a tornado of sorrow and anguish beliefs belong to fear and trapped in indecision a playful dance, a careless rapture Will blog as much as is possible up in our Nation's Capital, joining such illustrious Bloggers away from home as Matt, Lucie, Yoshi and Nick (while they were in Penang), Lucy (her last update from Madrid, no?) and Loretta (c/o Zimon and email from Mehico). Zimon, that one where Laura and I snuck up near you and took a photo is pure GOLD!posted by AJ | 4:09 PM | Well.... Haven't posted since Monday... What's happened since then, eh? *scratches head* Had a ReciproCITY meeting with Zimon, Nick and the recent addition of Max. So instead of getting those annoying (and persistent!) emails re: all things reciproCITY from me, soon they will be from Max. That's not to say that I can't contribute from Canberra, but he'll be the public face. :) Must think of things to bring up in the next meeting... it's all getting a bit 'real', what with the agendas and the quorums and the like. Man, I love that word quorum.... That night, I saw X-2 (X-Men 2) with my bro.... WOW. It was excellent. Nightcrawler is officially 'da man'. What with the blue skin, the teleportation and the German-ness, makes for an all-round great character.... I actually used to collect the comics that had Nightcrawler in them. X-Calibre I think they were called... might have to crank out the good ol' back issues *cracks knuckles* Was soooo much better than the first one it's not funny. And that's saying something, cos the first was no slouch. If you haven't seen it yet, why are you reading this?! GET OUT THERE AND WATCH IT. Then home for Buffy, which was also good... Was informed that Bec's first gig (in her band, Schematic) was well received by all who attended (and sundry). Go Bec!! You rock - you (and Will) give bass a good name.... Know you probably don't read this, but wanna send out the love.... Wednesday involved some sort of uni-related work... That reminds me still have to do that 200 Wörter Deutsch assignment. Wie Schade!. Erica made a post next to me at uni, which is always good... And on Wednesday night met Luke for our weekly Angel and "drinking" night (hi LUKE!). But no... Angel wasn't on... so we hired Donnie Darko which was very strange. Very Strange. That rabbit is sooooo freaky. It had a good vibe though... Luke, that chick really does remind me of Avril. Oh well... Melanie (live, via MSN from Paris) sent me some awesome photos from her and Lauren's post-exam party in Nov 2002. Some of the images I put on my site for you to view..... They are tre cool. So Angel should be on tonight ... I have no idea what's happening.. I'm meant to be going to my cousin's (practically second family) to say goodbye before I go to Can-berra, and there is also the RMIT SECParty at the Icon Bar... I don't think I can make it to both. .... Hmmmmmm .... What to do, what to do? Also, Eug mentioned going over for an Angel night at her house.... I'm triple booked.... How did this happen!? Must pack. Must finish Blue Mars, so I don't need to take it up to Canberra.. I remember when I went to China, I had to speed read the last chapters of a very large book so I didn't have to take it with me, but could take the next in the series. ... That was a fun anecdote, was it not? Am rambling.posted by AJ | 4:06 PM | Monday, May 05, 2003 YES! Channel 7 has perhaps done one of the best things they could... They decided to go straight to Season 4 of Futurama.... This episode looks really cool and was heavily nominated. SOOOOOOOO happy. Thursday 15 May 2003 10.30pm - 11pm | Seven ***Futurama*** Roswell That Ends Well Genre: Animation When the Planet Express ship travels through time to Roswell, New Mexico in 1947, Fry becomes his own progeny. With the voices of BILLY WEST, KATEY SAGAL and JOHN DIMAGGIO. PG *CC* 30 minsposted by AJ | 7:42 PM | Sooo.... The weekend was very very cool. Kinda strange, in that it wasn't your average weekend, but it was awesome nonetheless... (There's that word again, Zimon.) FRIDAY: Finished my SARS Ministerial Briefing Paper - note to self and anyone who needs to do anything like this in the future: Do not choose a topic that is so heavily featured in the news and also one that is so dynamic and important. That way your lack of in depth knowledge will not be so obvious..... I'm sure I did more on Friday... Ahh yes. I went op-shopping with Erica and Joel (as previous blog entry can testify). Very cool... SATURDAY: Having a class on a Saturday is wrong.... Needing to get up early to do this is wrong.... Going to one of your best friend's 21sts dressed as Fry is RIGHT.... Very amusing... Current Issues from 10:30-1:30, where I met such illustrious bloggers (I mean 'people') as Max, Lucie, Lauren, Jo and Jess. Freaked Paul out by using the ReciproCITY security pass to open the big yellow doors on Level 5.... ahhhhh :) Then trained it on home, went to the Copier's to print out my Slurm can (for my Fry costume), before going along to Eug's 21st where everyone had a GREAT night. The party was attended by guests including, but not restricted to: Princess Smartipants, Daryl (from Enid Blyton books), TWO Mavericks, (Top Gun) Rogue, Wolverine, Radioactive Man, Ken, Ryu, Barbie, the Wicked Witch, Tony Soparano, TWO Wednesdays, Little Red Riding Hood, Darth Vader, Superman, Sandy (Grease), Fry, Dr. Carter, Agent Smith, Neo, Mary Poppins and a Chimney Sweep... + a man with a very tight suit.... The list goes on!!! It was much fun. As I'm sure I mentioned to more than one person over the course of the night, costume parties are great in that everyone has an instant ice-breaker... Very very cool.... Home at 3. SUNDAY: Made way into Birrarung Marr for the BBQ to end all BBQs. Attended by Zimon, Yoshi, Erica, Keri, Luke and JOEL, not to mention the addition of Simon's brother and (girl?)friend. It was really really cool. We had fudge, mudcake, Pfeffernüsse, beer hamburgers/sausages/bbq food.... Yes, it was all my fault. A great weekend. Less than a week to Canberra..... the nervous is intensifying. For anyone wishing to have a look at where I'll be staying (Fenner Hall, at the ANU), check out this link: Fenner Hall Virtual Tour Check out how big that kitchen is! Guess I'll have to learn how to cook. Erica, any tips? Looks very very cool....posted by AJ | 1:04 PM | Friday, May 02, 2003 Over at Lucie's blog, while talking about the bbq/picnic/not sure thing, Sunday May 4th at Birrarung Marr, she mentioned that someone should bring a stereo along with them ... WHAT A GREAT IDEA!! and a pack of cards. JOEL!?500 anyone?posted by AJ | 10:58 PM | Attention please shoppers..... YES!!!!!!!!! Found a red jacket in the Op Shop. Am going as Fry from Futurama to Eug's! WOOHOO! Soo much fun. Will not say what others are going as, in case I spoil it for anyone that (regularly) visits my site.... Hi JOEL! How are you, JOEL! Are you just reading this, JOEL, to see if your name, JOEL, was mentioned, JOEL? Have a look at the picture JOEL... Anyway, spent the day finishing a SARS essay, then spending time with Erica and Joel G (not JOEL) looking in various op shops, eating pies, making badges, you know how it is. Have a good weekend everyoneposted by AJ | 7:34 PM | Thursday, May 01, 2003 An important gathering on the 4th May Yes, that's right. Soon (as hopefully most are aware) I am off to Canberra to complete my internship.... It's all a little bit scary and adult for me... When did we all grow up?! Anyway, to mark this auspicious occassion, I thought I'd grab a bunch o' friends, put 'em in one place, and see what happens....Ahh, social experiments. How I love thee. So, on the 4th of May (keep the afternoon and afterwards free), I invite you to join me at a as-yet-undisclosed location in the wonderful city of Melbourne for fun, hilarity and soccer. Please tell all. Email to follow.....posted by AJ | 9:49 AM | |
