Approachable Face?

Was just telling Herr Zimon, that I seem to have bizarre encounters on Monday afternoons, while on the way to or even while sitting at The State Library. A couple of weeks back I posted about that funny boy and chasing the birds....

Today, on the way there I was "approached" (which is such the right word by the way....) by an Australian Conservation Fund dude... Was telling Herr Simon that this kind of thing was in fact, not uncommon, and therefore quite a regular occurrance. Anyway, even after I had said "No, thanks. I'm not interested" as politely as I could and scontinued to walk, he still started to walk after me... A few questions popped into my head about this...

Do I have an approachable face?
Does it look like you can get money off me simply by talking to me on the street?
Does it look like I have money, let alone enough to donate to ACF?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you're in good company with a small percentage of people in Melbourne, I'm sure....

After that interesting experience, I went to eat lunch on one of the many benches at The State Library... Whilst sitting next to a lady and eating my sandwich (good work Earl of Sandwich)... Here's some random googlized info about him and his creation:

John Montague, the fourth Earl of Sandwich (born 1718) was the originator of the name sandwich. Montague loved to eat beef between slices of toast. Eating his "sandwich" allowed the Earl to have one hand free for card playing.

Fascinating, no?

Anyway, I digest (sic)..... Was eating sandwich, when suddenly a seagull flew up and landed on my arm. My initial reaction was "what the?" followed by "gross" then mixed with a li'l bit of both those two and "get off!" Surprisingly, the sensation of a bird perched on one's arm was oddly similar to that of a cat.... I enjoy neither...

Simon just looked over and laughed, before putting his head in his hands and said "oh no" to my "I digest" comment.... Yes, it worked....
OK, so then the bird flew away before landing on the lady's shoulder next to me and it seemed she had a similar sequence of reactions to my own. I said to her "They must think we're easy targets" and at the time I was referring to the birds... She agreed. But what about the ACF dude, eh? Must also think I'm an easy target.

She didn't like the seagulls. Didn't mind the pigeons though. They have been called the "rats o' the sky", no? I like neither....

The moral of this story is that there is not much difference between the annoying people asking for money, and the annoying birds clawing for honey...

THE END
