Public Transport

Recently on a public transport trip home (and on public transport in general), I'm amazed at the spectrum of society that is represented...

TRAM: One Asian law student (that is a student of law who was Asian, not a student of Asian Law) was discussing quite loudly the concept of solicitor/client privilege in a case they must've been studying... He had no concept of the volume of his voice.

TRAIN: I was sitting next to a woman who was reading that periodical of all truths, the mX, and she was either extremely paranoid or just didn't want me sitting next to her. I was gazing out of the window, as I was quite jammed into my seat so much so that I couldn't physically reach my bag at my feet to extract my book, so I thought looking out the window at the dusk and the city lights was a good alternative. Little did I know that the woman next to me thought I was reading her mX over her shoulder and, I kid you not, she kept turning her head to look at me every 2 or 3 minutes. The more she did it, the more fixed I was in my resolve to continue looking "over her shoulder" and out at the nightsky. Was quite funny and passed the time.

BUS: There was a virtual stampede (I use the term virtual, when I in fact mean literal, as I am not referring to a computerised environment in any way) when the bus arrived several minutes late at the train station. A fellow passenger, who is blind and with a guide dog, did not know where the bus had pulled up to. Fellow passengers simply disregarded her and walked right past her and her dog to stand waiting as the bus doors opened. The bus driver quite rightly told everyone to wait until the "lady with the dog" boarded the bus, before entering. A lady holding a basket, who looked quite proper, said quite loudly "where are you manners?". The two emo girls and the emo guy turned around and looked at her blankly, trying to figure out if they were the object of her derision. She just looked unhappy with the world in general and used this as an opportunity to vent somewhat.

I have also noticed several times that a certain area of the CBD smells like steak sandwiches at around 4:45pm. It's oddly enticing, given that you can also inhale car fumes at the same time.
