Temptation...

Hey there, everyone.
After a delicious breakfast in St. Kilda this morning, I had an audition to appear on the game show, Temptation, at Channel 9's Richmond studios in the afternoon! Crazy, huh!!??

Several months ago I sent an email to the show's contestant email address and last week, I received notification that they had reserved a place for me for an audition today! Unfortunately, I did not make it through the appearing on the show itself as the questions were very difficult (unlike my brother, Shane, who auditioned a few months ago and did make it through...!).

Sim drove me to Channel 9 which brought back really lovely memories of accompanying my Dad to work when I was a boy. I even remember sleeping in one of the guest rooms and waking up to a big picture of Bert Newton's face which I was scared of. Driving there today, I could remember exactly where Dad's reserved car park was and the surrounding streets and environs.

As I walked up to the building, I saw perhaps 25 other contestants queuing up, waiting for their, our, collective chance at fame, prizes, gold bullion and meeting Scotty! We were ushered inside a waiting area which was lavishly draped in red velvet curtains (which incidentally wasn't too different to my lounge room, so I felt right at home... hahahah). There we all collected an audition sheet which said "Your full name", was numbered 1-50 and said at the bottom "Total score". I didn't mention this but the silence among us was all pervasive. The two security guards in the waiting area were chatting about something that I could not make out, but other than that, all the other contestants were silently waiting. One was even drawing a very random, free-flow image of something that seemed to keep him busy....

After a wait of several minutes, the doors to Studio 9 were opened and we all, silently, entered the venue for our quiz. We sat one seat apart in a perfect replica of an examination and the lady proceeded to ask 50 general knowledge questions.

They were hard. They were very hard. Much harder than the questions that actually appear on the show, actually. And no, I'm not just saying that.

I scored 18 out of 50 questions and I had a fantastic time.
There were about 65 contestants in Studio 9 completing the quiz and of those 65, five made it through to appearing on the show. If you answered 27 of the 50 questions correctly, you could proceed through. Only 5 did. They certainly are able to whittle down who appears on the show itself, aren't they?

The whole process took about 30 minutes but it was well worth it. It was really really fun!!!

The Flying Duck Hotel

From my last post, you might recall that Simon and I went to The Flying Duck Hotel to celebrate my cousin's impending marriage. It was the first "buck's" event of any description that I had ever been to!!! It was a great evening and while we only popped in for the dinner segment of a day's worth of activities, it was a really cool.

You will be happy (or choose other word) to know that Simon had the "crab spagatinni" with garlic, chilli, fresh tomato, extra virgin olive oil & coriander, while I dined on the "seafood risotto" with mussels, scallops, fish, prawns, saffron, peas & chilli. Delicious.

Angels With Dirty Faces

Last night, Sim and I went to see an absolutely brilliant play entitled "Angels With Dirty Faces" at the Blackbox, Arts Centre. It told the story of six private school boys who deal with issues relating to adolescence, teen suicide, peer pressure, living up to parental expectations and homosexuality. It was easily the best play I've ever seen (not that I'm an aficionado of theatre...) and the play successfully captured the essence of school life and being a teenager just so well. From the scarily realistic "roles" that they all played, you could easily replace a name and a face and know exactly which character was who in your own life. The play's run has now finished, but if it ever appears on the stage again, I strongly encourage you to attend. You will not regret it.

Koko Black

It would be remiss of me not to mention just how delicious and mouth-watering the Belgian chocolate tart with crystallised orange segments and toasted almonds at Koko Black was. After a lovely dinner with Sim and two of my colleagues, this was just awesome. Check it out.

Next post, comments and a review of the movie that Erica, Sim and I are viewing tomorrow night: Paradise Now.
