Saturday, October 08, 2005 Liberate Your Latte (hold the Defiance!) Erica - sorry to have confused you with that cryptic crossword. It was not intended. I, too, am very poor at finding the answers and it's usually my colleagues who get them all out. We do the cryptic crossword if it's quiet on a Friday afternoon and well, I just liked the answer (shown in the Comments section of the previous post) My subject heading (Liberate your Latte) was actually on the shirt of one of the students at Melbourne Uni. I saw it the other day and thought, Wow. That is unusual. I have no idea what it means (I thought maybe it had something to do with Free Trade coffee), and thought the phrase was interesting to say the least. The "hold the Defiance!" aspect of the heading was due to one lady purposely standing on the right hand side of the escalator as many bustling commuters were trying to pass her as they were approaching their trains at Melbourne Central Station. She was clearly standing on the right-hand side of the escalator on purpose, because she was giving all of the passengers smug looks as they were forced to overtake her on her left. One gentleman was, how should I say - somewhat annoyed to say the least- and as he passed her, he quite violently and with a lot of strength shouldered her, so that she jerked suddenly forward. I saw all of this from the left-hand side of the escalator and was shocked to say the least. I felt like saying something to her about her rudeness and downright un-mindfulness of her fellow commuters, until I realised that her actions were on purpose, which I think made it even worse. I had my final day in Education yesterday and had a fantastic day, which included a lovely Afternoon Tea. I'm looking forward to a quiet weekend and then a rigorous induction and start to my new job next week!posted by AJ | 11:17 AM | |
