Saturday, February 19, 2005 A Message to The Queen This evening Sim and I sent a message to Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. Sim had an urge to look up the Royal website and proceeded to write an email to the Queen. He also downloaded an application for a position in Buckingham Palace as a Royal Butler. All the while, I was busy on the keyboard listening to Chopin. It was quite funny. The email went something like this, (in that here is the entire email...): Your Majesty, We think you are a great matriarch and that you always present yourself wonderfully. It is a shame that the Prince of Wales and his sons are not as well behaved. Prince Harry's foibles were not ignored by the Australian media. Yours humbly, Simon and Andrew Melbourne, Victoria, Australia PS - Have you read the Da Vinci Code yet? It is a refreshing view that is worth considering. I really do wonder if she's read The Da Vinci Code yet (or if someone at least has read it to her). Maybe as a bedtime story?? A gentle lullaby to ease her into SleepyTime? Perhaps that could be one of Sim's roles if he were to become a Royal Butler. After all, one must remember that "the Butler did it" in murder-mystery events!! (Did you notice my usage of "one", almost as good as the "Royal we", but that's quite wegotistic to say that... At least I didn't see Royal Wee, emphasis on the second 'e'!!) I have started and finished The Da Vinci Code and am now reading a book called The Piano Shop on the Left Bank by T.E. Carhart. It is the memoirs of an American in Paris and reads like a love affair with pianos. It's quite lovely. I especialy like the his descriptions of piano workings and the composers whose works have influenced the instrument's progression from an offshoot of the harpsichord to the fully-fledged instrument it is today. Meanwhile, and in keeping with the French theme, Sim is also reading a memoir! It is called French Women Don't Get Fat. By the way, I'm still subtly trying to get Sim to read Da Vinci Code, cos he likes puzzles and code books and I think he will enjoy it immensely. Last weekend (on Friday, 11 Feb) a group of us went around to Jenna's for the first Fellowship Dinner Party of 2005!! It was lovely and Jen served grilled chicken on a bed of lettuce, tomato and mango, which Erica suplimented with home-made Hommus and Turkish pide. This was then followed by a delicate chocolate mousse, cups of tea and coffee and much relaxed conversation. It was a beautiful evening, spent with friends. Thanks Jenna!!!! Last week Sim and I made Beef Wellington!! It was fantastic! For those who don't know, Beef Wellington is roast beef, smothered in pate and mushrooms, wrapped in pastry. We didn't include the pate (I don't like it) or mushrooms (Sim doesn't like them), but it worked out wonderfully. It was a quite adventurous dish and I think we did really well!! Eug has invited several people to post on a blog she has just set up, upon her arrival back in Oz. It's called http://onlycoolppl.blogspot.com and was perhaps precipitated by Eug's inability to access the Internet or email while in Indonesia. Please be sure to check out the site and if Eug has sent an email to you asking you to post, be sure to do that too!!! Finally, I have some words of advice from those modern-day poets, known as Nelly and X-tina Aguilera: Hustle for me, (hustle, hustle) Hustle for me, (hustle, hustle) Hustle for me, (hustle, hustle) Hustle for me, Yeah..... posted by AJ | 7:34 PM | |
