Saturday, November 06, 2004 The week that was... I've had a really fun week this week. The Melbourne Cup is definitely part of that and worth a mention. I had to work, which was quite alright because there was hardly anyone at Uni anyway plus our boss paid for a BBQ with yummy Nando's flame-grilled chicken and salads and everything which was lovely. Got to watch the Big Race on a projector screen and just socialise with people from the Faculty. It was really nice and got to meet some new people who in the past had just been names that I'd hear occasionally. Thursday was an interesting day. I had felt my hair was beginning to do 'the Uncle Scrooge thing' as I call it, whereby the hair just above my ears gets all curly and long and I'm forced to push it behind my ears because I don't like it going over them. I had heard that there was quite a cheap Barber's shop in Degraves St and so on Thursday morning I changed trains at Richmond and got off and Flinders St and wandered around the Flinders St Subway. Dya know what... - I have NEVER been down there!! EVER! It was like another world; a hidden part of Melbourne that I never knew existed. So on my way to this quite cheap Barber's shop in Degraves St, I happened upon an even cheaper Barber's shop in the Subway! I felt really proud of myself for some reason even though it was just by chance that I found it... This shop was called A Touch of Paris and it was very cool. All over the walls and the corners of the large mirrors were foreign notes and coins that had been stuck down over many, many years. And sometimes you'd see spots where coins had been stuck on and only the glue remained. Added to the old/all world charm... The notes and coins were from all over the world! It was really fun to have something to look at when getting your hair cut. Normally you're kind of forced to look at yourself or those things/people behind and around you to avoid looking like you're staring at yourself. It was very cool. There were also many certificates and awards that had been stuck up over the walls, indicating that these hairdressers really were qualified and not students or anything. On each of the certificates the family name was whited-out so you couldn't track or trace the person and their address I'm guessing. I thought that was little odd but interesting, hence me bringing it up. There was, however, one certificate that I think they had overlooked. Not only was the surname not whited-out, I'm pretty sure it was the only certificate there that actually HAD the address of the recipient printed on it. And that wasn't whited-out either.... Anyway, these are the things AJ notices... On Thursday night, Shangers and I drove around to Maccas and it seemed as if a car had reversed up a little grassy knoll just near the carpark, through a wooden fence and had broken a water main or fire hydrant. As Shane and I approached, we were greeted with a large geyser of water that extended metres into the air. All I can say is Old Faithful, eat your heart out! Also in work-related news, I now have a real desk! Office refurbishments took place on Friday morning with four modern desks being installed in the front office. I now look like one of the team! I already felt like one of the team, but it now looks like I am too with a proper desk and room to move. Suffice it to say, I was very excited. This week I've been listening to Sarah Blasko's debut album, the Overture & the Underscore, which I highly recommend as well as a bit of Love Outside Andromeda's (formerly Andromeda) debut self-titled album. Cool mcGool. It was Dad's birthday this week, which was lovely. Will go out to a beautiful lunch when the family is all free at the one time!! I hope you enjoyed The Week That Was... Stay tuned for more. posted by AJ | 3:58 PM | |
