Friday, August 20, 2004 I had a job interview today for a position with the University of Melbourne's Education Faculty. I think it went quite well. I know I had a great time in the interview and had a good ol' chat with the four of them about my work experiences and objectives. I then went to have lunch at Union House. Three slices of pizza and a coke. On my very very very short walk from the pizza place to the outdoor seats, A Greenpeace bloke asked if he could spare a few minutes. I was outraged. He could see I was about to eat my lunch but I politely said "Look, I just wanna eat my lunch mate" and he got the hint. 10 minutes later "Kathy" - another Greenpeacer - asked if she could join me, as I was finishing my lunch. I thought, sure why not?, and let her prattle on about logging cos I like picking random environmental subjects just to see if they know what they're talking about. Let me just ask my blogging readers here what you guys choose to talk about when these kinds of people approach you? Generally, I think about it for a few seconds and think of different things each time. I think last time I spoke about the ozone layer... ;) Admittedly I know nothing about logging, but she talked to me about it for a few minutes while I finished my lunch. At one stage, I noticed her looking at my pizza as I was putting it to my mouth and could not help but smile. This then turned into a little laugh, while chewing, cos of the intensity in her eyes. I'm glad I didn't choose Meat Lovers or something, otherwise she may have thought something about me - being a meat eater and all... Anwyay, that was really funny. I'm actually laughing out loud now remembering it... LOL She then asked me if I'd like to suport their cause, and I found out that all of Greenpeace's money comes from individuals... Hmm. I told her I had just come from a job interview and that all things going well, I'd "consider my priorities" if and when I get a call back. She was happy with that answer and wished me luck. Which is good, cos somehow I don't think Greenpeace is that high on my list. posted by AJ | 4:00 PM | |
