Tuesday, March 23, 2004 A blog from RMIT's Kay House.... YAY! I gotta tell ya - it's been a while since I've blogged from here. Brings me back somewhat. It's been a day of being brought back, somewhat.. Today, after waiting for a bus that never arrived (thus meaning I was late for the connecting train), I was late for a public lecture I went to about President Putin of Russia. It was held by the Contemporary Europe Research Centre of The University of Melbourne and was a fascinating insight into the world and political landscape that makes Russia, well... Russia! Pictures of Putin as an Iconic figure (where he looked quite like Andre Agassi, I thought) with his hands clasped around a boat that was indicative of Noah's Ark, plus posed photographs with the Patriarch and Russian schoolchildren were great to see. It made the enigma that is Putin in all his former KGB-glory, a beautiful thing to behold... (Were these pics perhaps the Russian equivalent of posed pictures of politicans kissing babies?) So I joined my good friend and yours, Monique, there and the lecture was very very cool. I went into the seminar room not knowing much (read: ANYTHING really) about the enigma that is President Putin and the recent Presidental Election. Was fascinating nonetheless... That brought me back to having some seminars / tutes and realised (well I had already realised it, but it affirmed it today) that I was no longer a uni student! I can act like one all I want by eating cold leftovers and stuff, but yeah - it was just a bit weird. Then had lunch with Mon up at Lygon St at the same place (Cafe Corretto?) I had lunch with Zimon and Loretta after Z and I saw "Spellbound". The waiters/waitresses wore white berets there.. ANYWAY, at that cafe they had sweet pizzas (Dolce pizzas!) with smarties and almonds and stuff.. I know Mon was excited about such a prospect and I was, but admittedly to a lesser, and less obsessive, degree. Sooo... that brings me to the fabled walls of RMIT's Kay House - everyone's favourite computer lab. I realised I had time to either make a blogging good blog entry or read more of Ian Irvine's thrilling second installment of The Well of Echoes, Tetrarch, and decided I'[d go with the former. That's not to say Tetrarch isn't fantastic (it is! - both genre-lly and generally speaking!), but I thought I should write something in here... It's annoying that RMIT's blocked hotmail access. REALLY annoying. If this had have happened last year, my work (and constant distractions) on ReciproCITY just would not have been the same. Will meet Simon at about 5pm at AXA (yes, what's an AXA?) for dinner tonight. Should be uber cool. Am anxious about my episode of the Fellowship of the Dinner Party on Sunday night... Anxious in that I'm simultaneously nervous and excited. What if the proverbial souffle doesn't rise? Nah, I'm sure it'll be fine. But being the (stereo)typical Virgo I am, I think I should make a list of all the things I need to do before then, just to put my mind at ease. (I wonder if other Virgoans make lists of all the lists they write?) hahahahahaha Oh and one more thing before I go - how cool was all the German on last night's Malcolm in the Middle? Wirklich fantastisch! I know this blog entry was really random and "jumpy", but that's what today was like... byebyeposted by AJ | 4:21 PM | |
