The Why of Fry

What a fun (and hectic!) weekend!!
As my previous entry indicates, I did go to to Jen's house for a swim, which was actually more of a "wade". It wasn't hot enough to submerge my entire body, but enough just to walk in the water... Started raining as soon as I got out anyway

At Jen's - Jen, Beck, Eug and I saw my Grade 6 play, Kids At Sea. It was so odd seeing something that I was in 10 YEARS AGO!!! Wow. That is mind blowing. Fun seeing it - I hadn't seen it before, so it was very very funny. My voice was so high! As was everyone's, I guess.... lololol

Afterwards, we headed into Brunswick (to the Cornish Arms) to see Missy Higgins perform, with The Boat People as the support act. Had dinner there, which was nice. I got the tandoor chicken burger, which had something called "raita" in it. I asked the waitress what "raita" was and must've mispronounced it. She corrected my pronunciation of it, but did not know what "raita" was. I found that very funny - she knew how to pronounce it, but had no idea what it was?!?! :) she then found out what it was - a sauce that had lemon, garlic, mayo? If anyone knows what's REALLY in it, comment.

Anyway, dinner was fun in the outdoor "Biergarten" type thing. Chatted away, before bumping into some other high school friends (Abbey, Gareth, Drew, Jessica). (PS - has anyone seen Home and Away recently? A new regular cast member was a year below us at high school!) We then headed inside, where I saw Adele who's also a big Missy fan following the george concert in December where Missy was the support act. Adele flies out of Melbourne bound for South Africa and Germany very very soon!! Wow - that's awesome. She'll be gone for a whole year.... whoa.

The Boat People were quite cool, but Jen and I spoke about all manner of things throughout their entire set, which must've been about 30 mins. I was so engaged in the conversation - just one of those really important, flowy ones, you know? - that I forgot The Boat People were even there. They were good, from what I can piece together...

The four of us then wandered up to the merchandise table, which was attended by a blonde lady and immediately I thought she looked like Missy, and thought 'yeah, that could be / probably is her Mum'. And it was. Later in the night, when I said it was "MRS. Higgins" (instead of Missy Higgins), the reaction of forced laughter / AJ is so lame was quite evident. hahahahaha. I thought it was funny though and that's all that matters ;)

Missy Higgins then came on stage and she was amazing. She plays keyboard and guitar and all her songs are really spare and personal and just very cool. Let's see, see played the following (more for my benefit, than anyone else's (much like this blog really...)):

When You Leave (opening song, definitely)
one about 'dancing dirt into the snow' (friend in Year 12)
Simple Things
Don't You Ever? (that song she wrote with the guy from Better Than Ezra - guitar)
that really jazzy one, where the crowd clapped in time (lyrics - getting off your chairs)
x- Falling
x+1 - Build Your Faith (Falling, then Build Your Faith, def back-to-back)
Greed For Your Love (the funny drunk man took his shirt off and danced to this lol)
another guitar song, written with Ezra frontman
The Special Two (closing song)

Encore:
The Sound of White
All for Believing

Afterwards, we each bought The Missy Higgins EP (and Beck bought a singlet), which we had Missy sign. I chatted to her and congratulated her on her first headline act and first encore, which she looked genuinely happy about. I can't wait to get my hands on her debut album. Also said good luck with recording the album in LA next week. Wow - I can't wait. It will be amazing. In the car back, I was singing all the songs (as you do) but obviously could not remember all the lyrics. Was very fun.

Saturday - worked all day. Ouch. LOOOOOOOOONG day.
Then drove into Southbank where I dropped Shane at Libby's (isn't it convenient both having partners who live RIGHT next to each other?!), picked up Simon and then headed to Rutti's house for Yoshi's Farewell dinner. That was very very fun. Got there QUITE a bit later than I wanted/expected to and would've loved to stay for longer but couldn't wrangle it. Oh well. Was awsome catching up with everyone. Saw Trang, she looked very well. Caught up with Jen too, who, as always was delightful.

The chicken I ate there was delicious. I wonder if Lucy had any....?
And that Long Island... (just received call from Zimon recounting the weekend. very cool)... Ice Tea looked SOOOO like the Creamy Soda that I brought along, minus the floaters of course.
Everyone must've been hammered... sooooo much alcohol there :)

Then drove to Dee's 21st and that was also very cool. Very relaxing, nice chill-out atmosphere. Spoke to Ang with Simon most of the night. I loved hearing her speak about her experiences in New Zealand. Sounded like she had an awesome (or an AXAllent time, as we would say) time there. Was just very comfy sitting away from the rest of the party, talking about not a lot... :)

Drove Simon home, drove self home. Much driving that night...

Sunday - work all day before LOVING lying on the couch watching new Futurama ep with Shane and Libby...

Oh, also ERICA - I read your Prologue and will get it back to you asap. It was fantastic. Literally, eh? hahahahaha. Get it, a fantasy novel prologue is fantastic... lol
I couldn't put it down. It was very well written. Can't wait for more.

See everyone soon!
