Thursday, December 18, 2003 Graduation 2003 Wow. What a great day. Very very cool... Started when Zimon and I met for the pre-Graduation BBQ, or we in the biz like to call it 'Gradfest' - hi Shazza!... BBQ at the Fig Tree area was fantastic, even though numerous people questioned the fact that it was indeed a fig tree... It was. Read the plaque. Anyway, was a wonderful atmosphere. It took 3 years for all of our families to meet each others', but you get that... It was such a hot day. Lucy didn't recognise me in my shirt and tie. I think the sunnies must've done it too... And Lynton said I was looking 'corporate'. I took it as a compliment. Donned the gowns and took numerous photos prior to the actual ceremony. We could not, for the life of us, work out the bonnet... Some looked OK.... Oh well. What can you do? It's pink after all.... Here's one: From there, to the Oxford, then dinner at Don Dons where Simon laughed at my fear of birds. Evil, disgusting, little creatures that they are... Met Jen there. She drove us to Telstra Dome. That car ride was pretty funny... Somehow we got there, not that my navigation was very good. I always forget about hook turns... The ceremony itself was fantastic. I think I've said before that I am a big fan of organisation and 'events' on the whole. The logistics of the ceremony, where 5,500 people graduated, were beound belief. Yet they pulled it off! Sat next to Rhianna and Rebecca for the ceremony and the gown hurt my shoulders like you wouldn't believe. I enjoyed the doctorate section immensely - those topics for their theses were so bizarre and interesting. Well, some anyway: like the one about AusAID and the one about beer... I must also mention how funny it was when the lady who allowed us to use the Aboriginal land at the stadium, spoke in her native tongue and the signer just went blank with this confused, awkward expression on her face :) Got some great photos of us in our gowns, looking dapper. Then to Bunker, which was fantastic. So much drinking, dancing, talking. Was awesome. Sorry to Lucy and Loretta for my drunken German. Those tequila and cowboy shots were yummy though! Ooooh, I must also thank my mentor in silent ordering of drinks, Hayley. What a champ. I then proceeded to tell others about it. The apprentice became the master... Oh and Matt - thanks for the usage of those sunnies. So cool. As you can imagine, I was quite hungover today. Did not remember large chunks of the evening. But I did remember the swirling, intricate pattern of the wallpaper in the toilet there... and analysing body language with Zimon, and dancing up a storm. Thanks for your votes by the way. Hahahahahahaha. I think I also said goodbye to Lynton with a homie style grip of the hand... Yeah, so very seedy today. Thanks for your calls and smses. There must be some kind of 24 hour bug going around or something.... And I want to thank you for giv-ing me the best day of my lifeposted by AJ | 10:58 PM | |
