Tuesday, September 16, 2003 What a day of mixed feelings. Zwan announced their break-up. *insert MSN sad face here* Last night Australian time Billy Corgan went on Chicago television to promote his new poetry reading happening soon. He also made the shock announcement that Zwan have ended. To quote Corgan: " Zwan broke up, yeah, a couple of people asked 'Why didn't you tell anybody?' I just didn't think it was - you know - all the part of my life about going around to generate news ... there isn't enough time to say what happened, its the same story you see on Behind the Music, Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll. Not enough sex and not doing any drugs. [laughs]" With Zwan ending their European tour fans across the globe knew the end was near, though many still had some faith. Although when news broke that Paz had left, it was then rumoured that Zwan had found a replacement bassist. Corgan was also asked what happens now for him, if he has any plans to put together a new band. "No, i think that urm, My heart was always in The Smashing Pumpkins and when that ended it was niave of me to think that I could form something that could mean as much to me. I really enjoyed my experience in Zwan, but at the end of the day without that need or sence for family or loyalty it just becomes like anything else. In some parts I felt that band members saw it as something that they could decide to do or not to do. Our attitude in the pumpkins was a do or die proposition, and that was through all the hard time we went through. ... But im 36 years old now, Im ready for a solo career and i feel really good about what i've done now." It was also mentioned in the interview by one of the newsreaders, that Billy will be releasing a book of poetry in the near future. So with the sad news that Zwan has come to end, it seems a new brighter future for Billy Corgan is on the cards. If you wish to download the movie file of the interview with Billy Corgan announcing the breakup, you can here: Corgan WGN Interview As for the other band members of Zwan. From all reports Paz is still working on her solo work. David Pajo is back working with PapaM and Matt Sweeney is finishing off Probot with Dave Grohl [Nirvana, Foo Fighters]. No reports on what Jimmy Chamberlin will be doing now with life after Zwan. We will still report any news on members of Zwan and Zwan will still be a part of Ozphoria, even though Australian never got to see Zwan play they will always be special to us. With this news and the news that www.smashingpumpkins.com is being re-released it may mean that the 'two dozen demos predating the Pumpkins' 1991 debut, Gish; 160 hours of rehearsals for the 1995 double CD Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness; fifteen unreleased songs written for the 1998 gothic opera Adore' may be released, as well as their final performance at the Metro in 2000. *insert MSN happy face here* In other news.... How COOL is Finding Nemo? Seriously, dude. Such a special movie, for little and big tackers alike. Check out the very cool website at www.findingnemo.com There, you can watch trailers (in multiple languages), look at cool wallpapers, send e-cards (which I did!)... As you may or may not know, I'm a big fan of Disney/Pixar's work and can't wait for Aladdin and Lion King to be released on DVD. Will be a very happy day. I'm over at the Pixar website now actually, downloading a trailer of their new-ie to be released in November 2004. It's called The Incredibles and looks very funny. Has that retro 50s feel to it that Futurama artwork and merchandise and also the show at large generally conveys.. Hmmmmm, that Westgate Bridge situation wasn't good. Not good at all. Race in half an hour. Futu in an hour and a half- "Jurassic Bark". Incidentally, the 3rd season of Futurama will be released on the 24th of September I read. Let's hope it's as funny and as filled with extras as the past 2 seasons have been. Viel Spaß. posted by AJ | 10:30 PM | |
