Sunday, September 28, 2003 From Wantirna to Werribee South As I said before, the post below requires some explaining... Remember HB, Hayley and Casey's excellent party some months back....? (was it a housewarming...? My memory fails me - I do know it was before I went to Canberra, so I'd say April 2003 then) ANYWAY... It was a rocking party with much dancing and a good time was had by all. After such a good time, Lil' AJ became tired and retired to find somewhere away from the party (which was continuing without his presence) and went upstairs to HB's room and found a generously sized walk in wardrobe. She said I could spread out my sleeping bag etc on the floor of the wardrobe, which was the perfect space for "cosy" and comfortable sleeping... So yes, I slept in her walk in wardrobe which at the time seemed completely normal, but now is the source for many fond memories..., including Zimon attempting (without success, hence the ATTEMPTING) to get me to re-join the party by pulling all my blankets off... Thanks for that, mate :) SO cut to the present (or nearabouts)... Last night, a group of us "crazy" German students made the trek out to Werribee Sth for Christine's 21st and we had the offer of staying over and spending the night at her house, as we might be drinking or too tired to drive home that night. On the way to her 21st, I mentioned to Kate (who drove me there) that if there were many people staying over, or if she/I became tired before the party died down, "we could always sleep in her wardrobe". This comment made perfect sense to me, as I had already experienced such a feat (or is that feet? ;) ) as sleeping in a walk in wardrobe, but kind of forgot that I needed to explain how I knew the joys of this to Kate (who obviously, had not...) It was during this hour or so car trip from Wantirna to Werribee Sth, which included the phrase "we could always sleep in her wardrobe" as well as the made-up term "venting is better than penting". (I said that her venting her anger was better than penting it up..). Kate then suggested I create a book, or at least something, that had such wise words of wisdom in its contents (Little did she know of this blog.. muhahahahaha) ANYWAY.....Cut to the party in this huuuuuuuuuuuuge house (for 5 people!!) where we had a GREAT time and did such cool things as played chess*, learnt how to 'Charleston' and do that Russian foot dance, and I even accompanied Kate by singing to her brilliant sight-reading of Des'ree's Kissing You and Ben Folds Five 'Brick' on the piano... (It was as we arrived at the party that other Deutschies asked if we were (contemplating) staying the night and Kate turned to me and said "well, the house is big enough. there might be walk in wardrobes for us both", which resulted in many looks of disdain, questions and eventually me recounting the above to them as well... (I tend to need to explain many things to people, don't I... Is my life so baffling and full of 'in-jokes'??) Anyway, It got to about 2am, where we made a quick bee-line to the still warm sausages and lamb-on-a-spit so ate some of that (and THE best cake I've ever had!!!) before finally having to make a decision about going or staying the night. We decided to go, thus Kate still has not experienced the joy of sleeping in a walk in wardrobe, but fear not - she is young and perhaps the opportunity will present itself before she knows it! *"Yes, Chess" - you see, as a result of the speeches at my 21st, several of my Melb Uni friends believed I could actually play chess. I know the rules. I know what needs to be done. But that does not mean that I know how to play AND WIN at chess. So after much poking and prodding and to jeers of "chess boy, chess boy! Just say yes to chess!" I played Andre and sadly lost.. It was a good game and I believe a random family member of Chris took photos of the two of us "looking intense". Would LOVE to see a photo of that.... After all, you need to "say yes to chess" Joel - you have much to answer for. LOL posted by AJ | 5:02 PM | |
