Tuesday, January 14, 2003 Greetings! After telling more and more people about my Blog, I think I have quite a large amount of people checking in. Not only to see if their names get mentioned, but also to... no. It's only to see if their names get mentioned. Hi Kristene, Jesse, Joel and Erica. There ya go. Oh, and Keri; "I can only say good things about her". Soooo. what's been happening!! Ooh, I was talking to Lucie, who is currently "studying" in Malaysia (it doesn't sound like study is the highest of the list of priorities there). She has a new Blog. Blogblogblog. Visit Lucie's new one here. On another note, I have seen three very good movies/docos recently. PANIC ROOM with Jodie Foster was excellent. It was directed by David (?) Fincher, who also directed Se7en, The Game and The Fight Club. All recommended. I also saw BLACK HAWK DOWN. It was also good. Loud. I'll take that away from the movie for sure... I also saw an EXCELLENT documentary called Trekkies. As a huge Star Trek fan myself, I had heard of this, but secretly put off watching it for fear of how .... err.... 'unique' fans of the shows are. WOW - there are definitely some interesting people out there. Such a funny look at one of the world's true "fan-omenons". I have also started doing a HUGE crossword. Largly due to boredom (which was incidentally a clue in the said crossword. Its answer: ennui. I knew that! No thesaurus needed!!) Simon: I said 'said' just for you. Keri: "I'm the THE-Saurus! I will eat you like my other prehistoric dinosaur companions..." :) AHhh, Year 11 English. Bludge Central. This Blog is having a nice sort of flowing motion to it... at least in my brain it is... I say that because the term BLUDGE CENTRAL reminded me instantly of one of the names that was thrown up as a potential idea for Futurama. It could have been known as "Doomsville" or even "Aloha, Mars". I like the latter, but fear that the fat cats at Fox wouldn't like Doomsville's...... in your face attitude! Ooooh back back back back.... From "TREKKIES" an interesting debate was presented. Trekkers or trekkies? Is there a difference, I hear you (not) ask yourselves... ;) Even on the documentary, there were differing ideas about the meanings of the two terms. One school of thought believed that the term TREKKIES is only used for fans of The Original Series, featuring Kirk and the like; while TREKKERS are fans of the later incarnations of the show. Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) was interviewed about this and she divulged that she had been informed a very different dichotomy. She had be told that TREKKIES were fans of the shows, who merely watched the various incarnations of Star Trek, but who did not actively participate in its fan base. TREK-KERS, on the other hand, TAKE the TREK with a large population of the fan base actively contributing in conventions, fan fiction etc. Both very interesting views. I don't know which to believe. I like the latter cos it SOUNDS like that could be the reason. This post really isnt all that structured. Much like me writing essays.... Hmmmm. Last night Joel and Erica playd the game Tetrisphere on my Nintendo 64 with me. It is a really cool game where you have to solve 3D puzzles and I might say that some of those puzzles are SOOO mind-baffling that it took us a great deal to figure them out (if and when we did...) Oooh - something else... Today I was thinking about all the people who are all around the world at this very moment. Keeping that in mind, I went to a website and divised my very own Travel Agenda (Amazing Race style of course :) ), if I were to see each and every one of them. Here's the agenda: Melbourne - Brisbane (visit my friend Kate!)- Sydney (stopover)- Kuala Lumpur (visit everyone studying in Malaysia!)- Shanghai (fly here then take train to Nanjing to visit Kim, friends and everyone at Nanjing Uni!)- Bangkok (stopover) - Delhi (stopover) - Agra (Hayley and her band of followers said they were visiting the Taj Mahal today...!)- Delhi (stopover) - Amman (stopover) - Rome (take a train to visit my cousin, Loretta and second cousins...!) - Overland To Berlin (visit my host brother, Simon!)- Overland To Frankfurt (take train to Kaufungen and visit host family, and organaise to meet Monique and other Melb Uni people studying in Essen and Freiburg somwhere around here!) - Overland To Paris (viit Mel!) - Overland To Barcelona (visit Laura!) - London (stopover) - Stockholm (say hi to Rhianna!) - London (stopover) - Vancouver (visit cousin, Luisa!) - Seattle (stopover) - Mexico City (visit Loretta!) - Los Angeles (stopover) - Melbourne. PHEW. And the map WOW. I think that's all... Oh no, it's not.... Chapek came up with the term ROBOT. Thanks go to the Audio Commentaries on the Futurama DVDs for that one. posted by AJ | 1:33 AM | |
