as the Soup Nazi - NEXT!No soup for you!
(Not that there's anything wrong with that!)

My recent Seinfeld Party was awesome, in my honest opinion.
I know I had a great time and hope that everyone who attended did too.

As the Soup Nazi, I do not think I ordered too many people around or told them they could not have croutons in their jumbalaya...

Rather, I did serve pear wrapped in pruscuitto, which I'm not too sure was well received, but I thought it was cool anyway... The cranberry, coconut and orange cake was well received though.

Let's see who was in attendance from the cast of Seinfeld:
- Sim, AJ and Eug (Bubble Boy, Soup Nazi and Elaine)AJ (Soup Nazi)
- Sim (Bubble Boy)
- Eug (Elaine Benes)
- Emma (The 'I Don't Know' Sales Assistant)
- Imogen (George Costanza in an unusual, furry hat)
- Erica (the Seinfeld theme tune)
- Erin (Extra from Episode 77)
- Dayna (Marisa Tomei)
- Rob (Black and White Cookie)
- Luke and Kellie (Mr. and Mrs. (?) Bookman)

Erica (Seinfeld theme) and AJ (Soup Nazi) Dotted around my house were various Seinfeld 'scenes', if you will, where I had displayed various props from the show and and had an extract of the script next to them.

Featured scenes included:

The Chinese Restaurant, Snickers Bar, Junior Mints , The Pez Dispenser, Muffin Tops, Shrinkage, The Black and White Cookie and the Big Salad

AJ (Soup Nazi) and Rob (Black and White Cookie) It was also really cool how everyone just chilled out watching two episodes of Seinfeld in my lounge room. How appropriate...

I still can't believe how itchy that moustache was. Oh, and in case you didn't know/guess, no that was not my real facial hair :^)

Thanks to everyone who came along and for putting so much effort in. I had an awesome Unbirthday and look forward to catching up with you all soon!!

There's always room for cake

The ever receptive (and might I add, quick-to-blog!) Erica has made an awesome post about one of hundreds of little conversations we had last night.

In true Sex and the City-style by incorporating friends' anecdotes and generally questioning everything, Erica and I somehow got around to the topic of what '
dating' is. All that was missing from the conversation was Carrie and a close-up of a Mac, scrolling screen, as the audience reads, as Carrie says aloud:
"... so when is a date a date?"

In an evening that was definitely not a date, because as I explained we are different cos we're Erica and AJ. And we're friends. Best friends, I'd say. Which is different.
Sexual orientation and being in a committed, loving relationship may come into play here. You decide.

I honestly do not know how we got onto the topic of it - oh wait, yes I do, I was enquiring, asking, questioning, interrogating Erica how she had gotten on recently in that regard and that's how it came about. This, combined with a cheesy, ravioli napoli and cheesy ravioli pesto led us to the aforementioned topic.

Having then elaborated to Erica that I was told that I went on a date with a friend, Keri, in about Year 10, which I certainly did not think was a date, this caused us to investigate the matter further. (Hi Keri...)

Is it in the questioning, i.e the way someone phrases asking you out? Is it in the location? Is it in who pays? What about if they
go Dutch and pay separately? Surely, these are important considerations that in some way influence the nomenclature of such a delicate social interaction.

In such a Melbourne institution as Pelligrini's, where I kept finding myself looking at Erica "through" the mirror, as opposed to turning my head to look at her directly, it was an appropriate locale to have such a typical Sex and the City (New York) discussion. At least, that's what I thought. It's also probably what led me to say to Erica, in between looking at myself/Erica/the "pasta nazi" "through" the mirror, that I thought places such as Pelligrini's, i.e. ones that hadn't changed in decades, would be prevalent in New York.

"Yeah, I know. People have commented to me that they used to come here 20 or 30 years ago and it hasn't changed at all", Erica said.
The man to Erica's left slurped on his minestrone, then dunked his bread in. He didn't know I was watching. Erica then pulled her chair in to allow two
metrosexuals to walk past.

"Oh, did you see that?"
I was curious what Erica was going to ask about.
"That's purposely dropped stitching [on one of the guy's jumpers]!!!"
"Oh no, I can't say that I did", I said laughing a lot, "maybe you can go up to him and tell him you noticed his purposely dropped stitching", indicating what I was sure would be a unique pick-up line for the fellow.
"Nah, they look too full of themselves for me".

Later, Erica comments "I don't think I like this dating stuff,", pouring a liberal amount of sugar into her coffee, that followed the meal. "It's too confusing. I think that just going to a party and pashing someone is definately the way to go."
I laughed as I moved my chair to let a waiter past.
"Drunken pashing," Erica continued. "Once you've done that you've gotten over all the akwardness, and everything can just move on smoothly from there. Get drunk and just pash someone I say. And once you've already kissed them when you're drunk there's none of that first kiss akwardness."

We stood up from our seats, turned around, and stepped the metre from the bar where we had been eating to the counter to pay for our meals."That's very true" I replied as I took my change from the "Pasta Nazi".

"In fact, that will be my new strategy!" Erica flourished her hands dramatically and we left the tiny restaurant.
"Where to now?"
"Well, we have about an hour to kill. We could find some cake."
"Can you fit cake in?"
"There's always room for cake!"
"That's so true! There IS always room for cake. In fact, THAT will be my new philosophy. There's always room for a little bit more of the good stuff."
"There's always room for cake!"

Five Things Meme...

While I do not have as
amusing and shocking a title as Erica's Meme post did, I have nevertheless been tagged. Here is my attempt at a meme... Note: I have been pronouncing this word in my head as ryhming with dream. If it in fact has an alternate pronunciation (such as me-me), please let me know!!!

WHAT WAS I DOING 10 YEARS AGO?

Ten years ago, 1996, I was in Year 8. Let's see, this would've meant that I was heavily into Star Trek [and a lot has changed...:) ], was still playing a lot of basketball and training for it on Monday nights and Sunday mornings and playing it on Friday night and Saturday afternoons. I'm pretty sure those were the big things in my life in 1996.

WHAT WAS I DOING ONE YEAR AGO?

One year ago, 2005, was not too different to right now. I was working with my current employer (albeit in a different area) and enjoying life!! Let's see - March - I believe Sim and I would've started to plan our June trip to Tasmania at around this time last year. That means I was probably busy emailling places and visiting websites sourcing accommodation and such!

FIVE SNACKS I ENJOY:
(Only five... sheesh McGeesh. This is gonna be hard hahahahaha)

- Country Mints.
- Friands
- Fritatta
- Dark chocolate, but I won't discriminate if presented with the milk variety
- Toobs! Do you remember toobs?? I found a looky-likey version of Toobs recently at The Nut Shack. Such flavours!

FIVE SONGS TO WHICH I KNOW ALL THE LYRICS:

- Like Erica, I am not impartial to the old Disney musical numbers. This means I, also, know all the words to songs like The Little Mermaid's Part of Your World (I must comment that I think the Reprise of this song is underrated and I enjoy it!), Aladdin's A Whole New World and The Lion King's Circle of Life (African parts excluded hehe)

- Radiohead's Green Plastic Trees and/or Paranoid Android (so hard not to write Paranoid Andrew!!!

- Smashing Pumpkins' Tonight, Tonight. Song that made me fall in love with their music. It appears on about five or six mix tapes of 1996-97, where I used to tape it off the Radio. Same can be said for Alanis Morisette's Ironic. Recently, in Tasmania actually, I heard the opening bars to Ironic and went "Yessss!" proceeded to turn up the radio and started singing along to all the words to it and at that stage the song was prematurely terminated... The DJ said that they did not have time to play the full song... So why play two-thirds, then hey??

- Garbage's Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!). This was evidenced when Garbage played Melbourne in November 2005 and I found myself singing along with Shirley Manson word for word for this song. I had always had somehwt of a take-it-or-leave-it relationship with this song, but I know think it quite simply rocks. Pure, unalterated pop, that is at the same time subversive.

- Bic Runga's When I See You Smile and Shawn Colvin's Never Saw Blue Like That. Beautiful.

FIVE THINGS I WOULD DO IF I WERE A MILLIONAIRE:

- Ensure my family were financially secure and happy
- Buy and furnish/decorate a home in Melbourne.
- The above would include a home cinema (not home theatre system) but home cinema, like the one George Lucas has at his place...
- I might instead/also buy a property in Europe or some other exotic location, to enjoy as a 'summer residence'. HAHAHAHA
- Perhaps go on a round the world trip

FIVE BAD HABITS:
This is hard.... It's not that I don't have them, it's that I can't think of them. Perhaps people can comment and say what bad habits I have...???

- Sometimes, using like, as a, like, punctuation mark?
-
-
-
-

FIVE THINGS YOU LIKE DOING:

- Chilling with Sim

- Watching DVDs with friends
- Baking cakes that I have not baked before (that sounded like the Star Trek opening monologue - to boldly bake where no cakes have ever been baked before)
- Studying grammar and/or languages. Did you know that 'to boldly go' used in the real Star Trek opening monologue contains a split infinite? It should therefore be "to go boldly"...
- Being creative, by way of blog or my scrapbook or making cards, presents for friends

FIVE THINGS YOU WOULD NEVER WEAR, BUY OR GET NEW AGAIN:

- Wear: Thongs. I just don't find them comfortable.
- Buy: Tattoo. I don't believe I will ever get one. I don't want one.
-
-
-
I'm struggling to think of others. Suggestions??
